レストランやホテルなどで「ご予約のお名前は？」と聞かれることがありますね。
これ英語だと
- Under what name?
と言われます。
これ、知らなかったらちょっと戸惑いますね。
Under what name ?：ご予約のお名前は？
レストランやホテル、チケットを予約したりとかした時などに「ご予約のお名前は何ですか？」と尋ねられるフレーズ。
- Under what name ?
これで
- ご予約のお名前は？
- どちらのお名前でご予約ですか？
という意味です。
これはもうフレーズを丸暗記しよう。
丁寧な表現になると、
- What name is your reservation under?
↓ - What name is it under?
↓ - Under what name?
だんだんカジュアルな表現になってく感じですね。
under ＋ 名前
「under + 名前」で予約した名前を伝えます。
予約してるレストランやホテルで「予約している◯◯です。」という時は、
- I have a reservation under ○○.
- I have a booking under ○○.
のように伝えます。
＜レストランで＞
- Do you have a reservation?
（ご予約されていますか？） - Yes, it’s under ◯◯.
（はい、◯◯です。）
みたいな感じです。
もちろん、
- Hello, my name is ◯◯. I have a reservation.
（こんにちは、◯◯です。予約をしてあります。）
でもOKです。
ちなみにホテルだと
- I reserved a room under the name of ◯◯.
（部屋を予約している◯◯です。）
という言い方もあります。
「under」を使わず
- Could I have your last name?
（お名前を教えてくださいますか？）
と聞かれることもあります。その時はシンプルに「Tanaka, Taro Tanaka.」などと名前を伝えればOK。
under the name of 〜：〜という名で
「under the name of 〜」で、「～という名で、～の名義で」という意味があります。
- The reservation is under the name of Ito.
（伊藤という名前で予約しています。） -
My reservation is under the name of Mike.
（マイクの名前で予約を入れてあります。） - To answer the phone under the name of the company.
（会社名を名乗って電話に出る。） - He took service under the name of Minamoto.
（源の姓を名乗って仕官した。） - He went under the name of Okada.
（彼は岡田と変名していた。）
あ、ちなみに海外のホテルではパスポートとクレジットカードが必要になります。
なので、チェックイン時には用意しておきましょう。
チェックインする前に確認したいことがある場合は、
- I ‘d like to confirm that 〜
（〜を確認したいのですが）
が使えるよ。
