英語で「差を縮める」は

gap（ギャップ）は、日本語でも「ズレ、隔たり」という意味で使いますね。

close the gap：差を縮める

「差を縮める」は英語で「close the gap」と、「gap」という単語を使う。

gap の意味は、

〔名詞〕

• 割れ目、裂け目
• すき間
• 隔たり、間隔
• 欠落部、空白
• かい離、ずれ
• すき

〔動詞〕

• 〔他〕～に裂け目（すき間・かい離・断絶）を作る
• 〔自〕裂け目（すき間・かい離・断絶）ができる

といろいろありますが、何かと何かの間の「差」とか「溝」のことですね。

close〔動〕には「閉める」の他に、

• 接近する、攻め寄せる
• 縮める

という意味もあります。

つまり「close the gap」で「差を縮める」となるんですね。

「〜間の差を縮める」というときは「close the gap between〜」と「between」を伴います。

「close the gap」の「close」の代わりに「narrow」も使えます。

「narrow」には「狭くなる、狭める」という意味があります。
